Lawrence Schmitt

larry

Lawrence first discovered yoga while searching for relief from chronic low-back discomfort. With relief from pain, his practice continues to be inspired by the mind-body-spirit connection.

The teaching of "Mindful Yoga" includes an eclectic variety of styles. Experiences will typically include: meditation on breath awareness, traditional Hatha Asana practice mixed with moderately paced Vinyasa sequences, hands-on adjustments to promote optimum alignment as well as releasing muscle tension, Yin style postures to create balance and space and peaceful music relaxation.

Lawrence believes the most important things to bring to the mat are an open mind and sincere intention, then staying present and following the muse.

Aside from practicing yoga, Lawrence has a deep passion for music, has studied the guitar and occasionally experiments with sound healing theory.

Laurie Mayper

Laurie Mayper was certified at the 200-hour level in 2005 through Yogaspirit Studios, and is currently pursuing 500-hour teacher training with Yogaspirit, an Iyengar-based tradition of safe alignment that leads students to find inner well-being.

To inspire her teaching, she has taken workshops with prominent national teachers, including Rodney Yee, Seane Corn, Rolf Gates, and Yoganand, and Yin Yoga Teacher Training (Foundations and Functional Alignment, developed by Paul Grilley), with Joe Barnett.

Laurie is very safety-conscious, and gladly offers modifications, whether to work around an injury, or to meet students' choice of a more gentle practice. Prior to focusing on yoga, Laurie was certified in group exercise. Aerobics & Fitness Association of America workshops include Group Exercise, Practical Yoga, Practical Pilates, Mat Science I and II, and Senior Fitness. She was certified by the YMCA of the USA in Pilates Mat, Group Exercise, and Personal Training. Additional trainings include YogaFit, Pi-Yo Strength Fusion, Silver Sneakers (senior fitness), and CPR certification. She is registered with the Yoga Alliance as a RYT-200.

Laurie encourages her students to practice at their own level. The goal of a yoga pose is not for it to "look" correct, but for it to "feel" right, by paying attention to both the muscles that are stretching and the muscles that are contracting, in order to feel stability in the body, a smooth breath, and a calm mind.
