INFORMATION FOR BEGINNERS TO THE PRACTICE OF YOGA

So What is Yoga anyway?

Yoga is an ancient practice originating from India. It is not a religion. Yoga is comprised of many teachings and time-tested tools that help the individual navigate through life. You do not have to adopt any belief systems, only partake in the experience of self-observation/realization. In fact yoga will take you deeper into your life which only serves to nourish your own personal spiritual/religious connection with the divine. Essentially, one becomes more in touch with the flow and functioning of their physical/mental and emotional health, enabling one to adapt to their environment and any challenges they May be faced with gracefully.

Yoga is the Sanskrit word “to unite” or “yoke” and it is through the practice of yoga that one gradually unites with their infinite self which is as vast as the Universe itself! As we unite with our true self in the daily practice of yoga we come to lead a more balanced and healthy life, as know part of our being is suppressed but rather integrated. We develop an energy system that flows effortlessly as our glandular system balances, our nervous system strengthens and our blood chemistry shifts towards health. Yoga brings Light to the Mind, Peace to the Heart and Strength to the Spirit. We radiate peace that come from within and it is felt by those around us. We use physical poses to open the physical body, sound/mantra to regulate the fluctuations of the mind and breathwork/prayanam to nourish the spirit, thus bringing about a state of internal peace and cessation of restlessness the plague of this century.

Whilst there are many branches/schools of yogic philosophy, a common thread unites them all, the teaching that one needs to be present with who they really are. Through Yoga we bring consciousness into our lives and all that we do, especially with regards to family and friend relationships. We develop the ability to be fully present in any given activity and experience it for what it is. We take our yoga practice of the mat and into the world! The path of Yoga is a personal journal, it really is different for each person and changes in every given moment of our blessed lives.

Love , Laughter and Light

Some pointers:

Wear comfortable clothes that you can move freely in.

It is best to do yoga barefoot so that the nerve ending in your feet can breathe.

Try not to eat 2-3 hours prior to a yoga class. However, lighter options such as fruit are fine to keep blood sugar levels stable.

If you are taking medication, consult a physician before taking classes at Sat Nam Studio.
